Zotero hand-out

Reference Management Software like Zotero enables you to build and organise your own library (database) of study and research sources. The tool allows you to collect descriptions of these sources from resources like library catalogues, online databases, web pages et cetera.

At the most basic level Zotero is a reference manager. It is designed to store, manage, and cite descriptions of books, articles, reports, web pages, artwork, films, letters, manuscripts, sound recordings, bills, cases, or statutes et cetera. In doing this it uses the metadata in the descriptions of sources, e.g. names, titles, publishers and even text in abstracts. More broadly, Zotero is a tool for collecting and organizing sources, research information and files.

The Zotero hand-out offers basic information about Zotero especially for Media Studies and Art History but it might be relevant for other disciplines. The hand-out includes short instructions for downloading the app, making an account at the Zotero website, adapting some preferences and how Zotero functions. Furthermore, it offers information about how to make citations and build a bibliography while writing.
